They were nominated at last year’s Grammy Awards for Best Country Song, but were beat out by Lady Antebellum‘s “Need You Now.”

However, that didn’t discourage The Band Perry from pushing on and earning a spot on this year’s Best New Artist list for the 54th Grammy Awards.

The sibling trio – Kimberly, Reid and Neil Perry – have piled on some reputable stats since the last time they linked up with the music academy. For one, their debut album The Band Perry, peaked at #2 on the US Country charts.

The group’s sound, which is a “soft pollination between country and rock,” got the country world buzzing so much, that fans helped drive their debut album to the platinum sales mark.

“My bass and I’ve been attached at the hip since I was 10 years old,” said Reid Perry. “While most of my friends were playing the little league, I was sitting in my room learning Rolling Stones’ and Beatles’ bass lines. It’s really all I’ve ever known.”

The threesome first joined forces in 2005, after younger brothers Neil and Reid decided they had enough playing roadie to their then 15-year-old sister Kimberly’s first band.

After three years of making music, touring and hitting “The New Faces of Country Tour” stage together, The Band Perry was approached by Bob Doyle. The seasoned industry manager, who is best known for his work with country music star Garth Brooks, took the trio’s sample demos to Republic Nashville records.

The label, which resides underneath parent company Universal Music Group, quickly signed the talented country group in 2009 and subsequently released their 2009 debut single “Hip To My Heart.”

The catchy love tune performed moderately well on country music charts.

Though snubbed at the 53rd Grammys, the group continued on to stack up several country awards including Top New Artist, Top New Vocal Duo or Group, and Song of The Year for “If I Die Young.”

“Daddy rocked us to sleep with Rolling Stones,” said lead singer Kimberly Perry “[and] mom woke us up with Loretta Lynn. So we get it, honest.”

If all goes well for these ‘comeback kids’ on Grammy Night, The Band Perry could very well be 2011’s Best New Artist. Will they be able to beat out Nicki Minaj, Bon Iver, J.Cole and Skrillex?

Tune in Sunday night for the 54th Grammy Awards to find out.
