STORY: First Degree: Tulsa Shooters Charged With Murder!

An 18-year-old identified as Sergio Pinex was shot in Gary, Illinois Thursday over a pair of sneakers.

According to Fox News, Sergio and his friend had just left a store and were walking down 23rd Avenue when they were approached by the armed suspect. The suspect demanded that the two young men give up their belongings and their sneakers.

Sergio, who his friend says was reluctant to act in the criminal’s favor, was shot immediately. His friend who gave up everything, survived.

Sergio’s grandmother Frances Pinex spoke on the incident saying:

“It was the other guy’s shoes. They took the shoes off the other guy and he didn’t have no money on him, I don’t know if they took his wallet or not, but he refused to get down when they told him to get down.”

Authorities believe the assailants drove a purple PT Cruiser and a white Cadillac and are looking for the vehicles.

Sergio was turning 19 this week and instead of plans for a birthday, his family now has to plan for a funeral.

More efforts need to be made to stop such crimes from occurring.
