If you have been paying attention to the Olympics at all, chances are you feel like some of the sports featured seem really fun. The problem is that most people have no idea where they can participate in these sports in their area.  Luckily for you it is the Wild Card Weekend and for this Dollars & Sense we will be taking you to the Olympics.  But don’t start applying for a Passport just yet, all of these sports take place right in the Big Apple.  If you can make it to New York City, then this one is just for you. Enjoy.

Enjoy Fencing Right In Brooklyn

Fencing may be pretty low on the list when you think about activities that you can do in Brooklyn but members of the New York Fencing Academy May feel a little different.

To et an amazing workout and feel like a badass at the same time, you can check out the Fencers Club—it’s the sport’s longest-running organization in the country and three of its athletes have qualified for the London 2012 Olympic Games. The summer session at the New York Fencing Academy just started, and adults can try out one-hour beginners classes, 90-minute intermediate classes, two-hour competition classes or 30-minute sessions to improve footwork. You can sign up for individual lessons beginning at $150

Get Some Equestrian Training In The Bronx

If horses is more your thing, you may want to make your way uptown to the Riverdale Equestrian Center in Van Cortlandt Park. It’s open every day, including weekends for private lessons in English Riding which is the preffered style of the Olympics.

The Riverdale Equestrian Center is open for all for all skill levels, all you have to do is make sure to wear long pants and boots with a one-inch heel. A 30 minute lesson will set you back $55 while a one hour lesson will be $100. Helmets are also available upon request for $5.

Develop A “Rainy Day Fund”

Medical emergencies, the loss of your job or other unforeseen expenses can throw you into a debt spiraling downward. Try to develop a three to six month cash reserve fund to handle such emergencies.  This way, if you no longer have a steady source of income, at least you will have a little time to get back on your feet
