Twitter is one of the leading social networks, but their CEO hasn’t been on the social forefront like Tom of MySpace and Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook. But this morning, Twitter’s CEO Dick Costolo made an appearance on TODAY and revealed a new look for Twitter’s profile pages.

The new look for Twitter isn’t limited to the computer screen, it will also take over mobile Twitter users and the company announced an all-new design for those experiencing Twitter with an iPad.

Here are some of the changes as explained by TODAY:

There’s now a huge header image that runs across the top, sort of like the banner image that Facebook users have on their timelines. The page itself has been reoriented to play up other visuals as well: Your avatar is no longer tucked in the corner, but will display front and center. The photo stream, too, has been moved up, and will now be accessible on the apps.

The Twitter re-vamp has already begun rolling out. Twitter will be allowing users to opt into a switch or allow them to be able to wait until the site rolls out its entire site.

Here is what Twitter had to say about the redesign:

Starting today you can make your presence on Twitter more meaningful with new Twitter profiles. Upload an all-new header photo on mobile apps for iPad, iPhone and Android or twitter.com, and the same image will appear whenever anyone views your profile on the web or these apps. You can upload your header photo, which appears above your Tweets, to express yourself instantly, anywhere.
