In a chilling last tweet, 18-year-old Alexandra Kogut revealed that she “should’ve known,” moments before her boyfriend Clayton Whittemore allegedly bludgeoned her to death as she started her first year at SUNY College at Brockport.

The two New Hartford High School graduates looked forward to each other’s weekend visits, according to their Twitter messages, and their playful tone gave no hint either was unhappy with the other. What the tweets did reveal, though, is that they missed one another.
As reported by Uticaod.com, in a series of final tweets, Kogut revealed:
“So excited for @Whittemore21 to come to Brockport Saturday and bring me half moons,” 18-year-old Kogut tweeted to Whittemore in early September, about a week after Kogut had moved 2½ hours away to the Rochester-area college.
“Not if I eat them all first yummm,” Whittemore tweeted back.
“You better not eat my half moons or tomato pie!!!!” she replied.
They called each other “dork” and “freak,” and last Thursday Kogut – who everyone knew as “Alex” – tweeted her eagerness for Whittemore’s latest visit this past weekend: “Ahhh see you sooon !! :)”
But by 12:13 a.m. Saturday, Kogut would tweet one last time: “Should’ve known.”
Authorities believe it was shortly after that time that 21-year-old Whittemore allegedly “brutally beat” Kogut inside her freshman college dorm. By 4 a.m., police had nabbed Whittemore at a rest stop on the state Thruway near DeWitt.
Whittemore, a Utica College student, admitted to killing Kogut, but he has since pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder charges.
Kogut’s family released the following statement:
“Alexandra Kogut was a bright, beautiful young woman who was thrilled to be beginning her college education. Her lovely and sweet demeanor was truly infectious and she will forever be missed. Her family is very grateful for the tremendous outpouring of love and support that they have received from so many friends and neighbors. They ask that their privacy be respected during this time of grief. The family will make no further comment.”
What could cause a person to carry out such an unspeakable crime? Our thoughts and prayers go out to Kogut’s family as they continue to piece together what happened to Alexandra.
