It was another bloody weekend in Chicago, as 5 people were killed and 24 wounded in shootings across the city.

At least 24 people were hurt in shootings throughout the city since Friday afternoon, with 9 wounded in a two-hour stretch between 12:30 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. early Sunday.

As reported by the Chicago Sun-Times:

-On Saturday night, a 16-year-old boy was killed and an 18-year-old was seriously injured when they were shot while hanging out in the front yard of a building in the 6300 block of South St. Lawrence Avenue when shots were fired about 9:20 p.m., authorities said.

-The youngest boy was shot in the upper chest and taken in “extremely critical” condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of County, said Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford.

-The boy — identified as Richard Modell, 16, of the 6500 block of South Rhodes Avenue — was pronounced dead at 10:12 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

-The other boy was shot multiple times and taken in serious condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Langford said. According to unconfirmed dispatch reports, the boy was shot four times in the legs and the scrotum.

-A 20-year-old woman was fatally shot during a domestic dispute Saturday morning in the Cragin neighborhood on the city’s Northwest Side, police said.

-Nawal Aysheh was at her home in the 4800 block of West Wolfram Street when she was shot about 9:10 a.m., authorities said. Paramedics took her in “extremely critical” condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where she died at 11:45 a.m., authorities said.

About 11:30 p.m. on Friday, a man from southwest suburban Evergreen Park was killed in a drive-by shooting in the Englewood neighborhood, police said.

-Lafayette Johnson, 34, was walking in the 7100 block of South Eggleston Avenue when a dark-colored vehicle passed by and shots were fired, authorities said. Officers found Johnson dead with a gunshot wound to the back, police said.

-About 7:15 p.m. on Friday, a 73-year-old man was shot dead while he sat on a porch in the South Chicago neighborhood, police said. 

A stray bullet hit William Thomas in the head while he sat on the porch in the 6800 block of South East End Avenue, authorities said. Thomas, of the 1700 block of East 68th Street, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The violence in Chicago never seems to dissipate, and many in the community continue to search for answers on how they can curb the ongoing shootings.
