A Bronx, NY dad did the unthinkable, drowning his 5-year-old son in the bathtub, before feeding his 7-year-old daughter rat poison, killing them both, according to NYPD officials.

Leonardo Espinal, 47, was babysitting the kids at his stepmother’s University Heights apartment when he called their mom, from whom he was estranged, and threatened to kill himself, sources said.
According to the New York Daily News:
The alarmed mother, Rosaura Abreu, called Espinal’s stepmom, who found the daughter sleeping in her vomit on a couch and the suspect locked in a bathroom with the boy, police said.
Cops broke down the door and found Espinal with his son Stewart, who was undressed and unconscious, in his arms, sources said.
The kids’ mom arrived at the apartment – just as the cops made the heartbreaking discovery. The domestic drama turned deadly after Espinal picked up the kids up at 10 a.m. Tuesday to babysit them. Espinal was supposed to return them to Abreu at midnight, but he called and asked if they could spend the night and she agreed. Forty minutes later, Espinal called and threatened to commit suicide, sources said.
Espinal and Abreu were together for the last 10 years before she kicked him out of their Walton St. apartment about 15 days ago, according to witnesses.
Espinal was taken to Bronx Lebanon Hospital for observation and charges against him were pending.
Only a few weeks ago, an Upper West Side nanny allegedly killed two children, stabbing them to death, while at the same time slicing her own throat.
Neighbors in the building reported hearing a scream shortly before police arrived.
Violence against defenseless young children must stop.
