Yes, you read that right. A new mother named her daughter Hashtag, as in the ubiquitous Twitter symbol used for trending topics, which was formerly known as the “pound sign” on telephone dials – or the tic-tac-toe symbol before Twitter existed.
The new mom announced that little Hashtag Jameson was born on Saturday and the Twitterosphere went crazy, tweeting that such an outlandish name will leave the child susceptible to scorn and ridicule during her childhood/life.
On the other hand, is Hashtag really that far of a stretch from the celebrities who named their children bizarre names like Bingham Hawn Bellamy, Apple Martin and Bear Blue Jarecki?
