UPDATE 11:25AM EST:

The lockdown has been lifted and “all clear” has been given

—–

Just a few short days after the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy, another Connecticut town is in lockdown over a suspicious person who is possibly armed.

CT Post reports:

Capt. Tom Comstock said police received a call reporting that a white man, wearing all black, was seen walking on Route 7 with a rifle swung over his back. Police were trying to determine whether that report is accurate.

Ridgefield Superintendent Deborah Low has released a statement saying that town schools “have been put into lockdown.”

“This is Ridgefield Superintendent Deborah Low with an important annoucement on Monday, December 17th at 9:00 AM. Due to a report of a possibly suspicious person in the Branchville Train Station area, all schools have been put into lockdown. Branchville Elementary school busses have been diverted to East Ridge Middle School and BES students are in the auditorium.”

First Selectman Rudy Marconi said a motorist traveling on Route 7 told police he saw a man with a rifle.

By 10:30 a.m., it appears the report is false, but police — some in SWAT gear — are still on the scene.

Police from Westport, Norwalk, Danbury, Bethel are assisting state and Ridgefield police.

WTHN reports:

All Ridgefield schools have been placed in lockdown following the report of a possible suspicious person near the Branchville Train Station, including Branchville Elementary School.

According to the superintendent’s office, buses are bringing students for that school to the East Ridge Middle School where they will be put in the auditorium.

The Redding school district is no longer in lockdown.
