Michael K. Williams may be best known for his roles on the HBO hit series The Wire and Boardwalk Empire.
And although his Boardwalk character Chalky White has a uniform consisting of suits suitable for that time period, the 2012 Michael K. Williams has had to develop his personal style over time.

In the video above, Michael tell the timeless Vegas story of Mr. Ashley Revell, who walked into Las Vegas’ Plaza Hotel & Casino in a black tuxedo in an attempt to double the $135,300 that he received from selling all of his worldly possessions. He bet it all on red and whether or not he won is never revealed, but Michael compares his struggle towards success to be quite comparable to Ashley Revell’s. He, like Mr. Revell, struggled in obscurity for decades and says there was more than one instance when everything was on the line.
Unlike Anthony Revell, we know that Michael K. Williams is now turning his winning hand in the game of life and the evolution, or better yet “revolution” of his style, is a testament to that.
In the accompanying interview, Michael talks about the turning point of his style:
At 18 I was like, screw it, I’m gonna dress like me. I bought my first pair of penny loafers, and started wearing things like cashmere coats. My neighborhood was pretty conservative, so walking around in a Michael Jackson jacket, penny loafers and Ray-Bans meant I caught a lot of flack.

Michael goes on to talk about his history of being a risk-taker:
I don’t play the tables but definitely consider myself a gambler in life. I’m not stupid or reckless, but I didn’t get this far by playing it safe.
