It’s often said that life imitates art and vice-versa.

Eric Daman is a prime example of his art imitating life, and it just so happens that his art is styling the casts of Sex and the City, Gossip Girl and most recently, the Carrie Diaries.

Eric’s main focus now-a-days happens to be Carrie Diaries star, AnnaSophia Robb, who plays Carrie.   Although Carrie hails from Connecticut, and Eric from Monroe, Michigan, their stories are similar in the sense that like Carrie, Eric left home to pursue his big dreams in a major city.

While studying abroad in France during his sophomore year of college, he fell madly in love with Paris and broke the news to his blue-collar parents that he wasn’t coming back for his junior year. While his parents agreed to pay for school, they refused to support his “lifestyle.” Soon he found himself working at the avant-garde clothing boutique, Magic Circle.

There he met Patricia Fields, who you may know as the head stylist for Sex and the City, and a scout for famed photographer Steven Meisel.

A week later, Eric came home from work to a message on his answering machine: “Hi, this is Steven Meisel’s office. We would like to shoot you for a Calvin Klein campaign next week in New York. Are you available? Call us back.”

Eric began his venture into the world of fashion right there. Over the course of the next year, he shot several more Calvin Klein campaigns with Kate Moss and Meisel, enjoying the wild ride of his newfound model life.

Eric, being the smart man that he was, knew that modeling wouldn’t last forever and eventually realized that he needed a Plan B. It was actually Steven Meisel who would encourage Eric to begin styling. Soon afterwards, Eric ran into Pat Field on the street. She was looking for an assistant designer for the second season of Sex and the City and told him she wanted to elevate the show. He hit it off with Sarah Jessica Parker and ended up working on the next three seasons.

“I learned so much from [Field and Parker] about how sparkles work, how prints can work against each other or for you, and how everything really should be tailored as much as it can to show off the best silhouettes.  It really was the best costume design 101 any student could ever have.”

That philosophy has helped his career come full circle. Now Eric works as the main stylist for The Carrie Diaries, and his biggest challenge is to dress new versions of characters we already know. You can take a look at Eric shopping for the cast in the video above, and make sure you tune in to see his work on Monday at 8 p.m. EST on the CW.
