“What I’m Reading, Doing, Loving, Wearing, Hearing.”

That’s how Beyonce described her brand new BeyHive blog, which she launched this morning.

The site feels more like a Tumblr than an actual blog; there are few words. What there is, however, are images and links to various movies, books, music and hot spots to things Beyonce thinks is cool.

We spent hours looking through the various links, and here’s what we learned by looking through Queen Bey’s BeyHive.

Beyonce thinks Beasts of the Southern Wild and Argo >>> Lincoln

Out of the nine movies that were nominated for a Best Picture Oscar this year, Argo and Beasts of the Southern Wild are the two movies who are least likely to win (politics, ya’ll). Don’t tell that to Queen Bey, however. She has a history of thinking outside the box, and her choosing to showcase an outsider movie like Beast (and, to a lesser instant, Argo) shows she doesn’t mind rolling with the underdog, as long as it moves.

Beyonce isn’t scared of the abstract

Another interesting movie choice Bey made was the inclusion of last year’s Tree of Life. The film, directed by the brilliant Terrence Malick, is one of the most difficult movies of the last 10 years. It tells the story of a family growing up in the ’60s, while injecting the history of Earth into the film. The movie stresses visuals over plot.

You can also see Bey’s obsession with the abstract, with the various art links she puts up, including one detailing her love for Vito Acconci, the artist who did the clam shell sculpture Bey is posting next to in the photo above.

Beyonce keeps her ears to the streets

There were two rappers on Beyonce’s blog and, no, they weren’t Jay-Z and Kanye West. They were, in fact, Kendrick Lamar and A$AP Rocky, two of hip-hop’s most talented up-and-coming rappers. While both rappers are popular, neither are super mainstream yet, showing she knows what’s bubbling beneath the concrete.

It’s always family first for Beyonce

Even though she still keeps that part of her somewhat personal, family is important to Beyonce. She has a post explaining the color blue, which is the name of Blue Ivy Carter, of course. She also gives a shout out to lil sis Solange by posting her wonderful video “Losing You.”

The theme of family can even be seen in the literature she’s posted: one of the books featured on the site is the devastating The Year of Magical Thinking, a memoir that details Joan Didion’s struggle with losing her husband of 40 years.

Beyonce is down for some quality cheap eats

There weren’t a lot of hot spots in Beyonce’s BeyHive. However, she did make sure to shout out two places in New York City: Prune Restaurant in the East Village and Vinegar Hill House in Brooklyn. What makes these spots cool is that they are hip and aren’t that expensive: in both restaurants a dish is about $25 bucks. So you can’t eat just like Beyonce without breaking the bank!
