Although we like to think we don’t live in a racially separated world, in some aspects we still do. We can thank Paula Deen for recently reminding us of that.

The modeling world is still one of the toughest industries for a young black female trying to make it.

Nineteen-year-old Malaika Firth, the face of Prada’s new campaign, is here to break the silence on what it’s really like. It’s been nearly over two decades since Prada cast a black female in their campaign – Naomi Campbell was the last in 1994.

According to BuzzFeed, about 90 percent of Fashion Week models this year (including London, Milan, Paris and New York) were white.

This is why we’re so excited to see some beautiful brown color added to Prada’s Fall/Winter 2013 campaign!

Miss Firth, who was raised in the UK and started to model in 2011, and has already landed such a monumental gig. Talk about impressive.

Hopefully, it doesn’t take another whole decade before we have another black female front and center on the billboards of all these brands we’ve come to love.
