I love my job as Fashion Editor here at GlobalGrind.com. I am allowed the opportunity to view many new collections and share my thoughts with you and today is no different. I am always skeptical about celebrity driven brands, as I feel that they often mock the business and lifestyle that I have fallen in love with. Fashion to me is about passion, thoughts, emotion, smell, sex, power, class and many other random adjectives that many of you will judge. Lately I’ve started to wonder why Beyonce wants me to wear her clothes when I NEVER see her or Solange wearing them. I ask myself if you don’t believe why should I?
Let’s think back at clothing lines that were attached to a celebrity in the past that have had amazing success, and what you will find is one shocking similarity. Not that they were in fact the best brand, or that the clothing was so unique, its that they themselves believed. Think about all the times you’ve seen Gwen Stefani in L.A.M.B. and thought that by you wearing it made you feel just a glamorous as Gwen. What about Jay-Z in Roc-A-Wear? 8/10 he’s in a piece for his line. Well to cut to the chase, I see the same brand loyalty in Lamar Odom, which can only lead me to believe that Rich Soil may be the new face of the male street wear community, (As a celebrity driven brand) So Designer Spotlight this week goes to what seems to be a shy and quiet Lamar Odom.
I am more impressed with the artistic approach the team at Rich Soil took. The graphic designs on the pieces don’t mirror anything that I’ve seen in a while and the cotton is really soft. As I sift through the samples they sent over to us I immediately used one of my five senses to feel the product! And what I found was that there was great attention to detail as it appeared the design was impressed into the thread and not screen printed on a tee. Not many people will appreciate what that means but take it from me that it requires great skill and money to impress deigns on T-shirts and sweatshirt. I’m also really impressed with the fit of the women’s line as I often feel that men never gauge women’s clothing properly! All in all I’m excited to follow this brand, as I am sure the the success rate is very high! You guys have seen Lamar everywhere as of late, and he is always adorned in Rich Soil. So since he believes I do too!
