Do you have to lay down your Hip Hop musical gift, clothes, or swag to come to Christ? God Forbid. So why do people act as if Hip Hop is a scheme of the devil? The devil did not create anything, he only imitates. The musical gift of Hip Hop is of God when its Christ centered.

I refuse to believe that God will give someone a gift they cannot use. I believe people need to have an understanding of what gifts are. They are to be used for the glory of God, not for your own glory, for your own fame.

Sometimes during interviews I just stare at people like Lil’ Wayne, T.I., Gucci Mane, V.I.C., DMX, just to name a few, because you can literally see the hands and the glory of God on their life. I wonder to myself what would it be like if they were completely sold out for Christ? How many souls would they win for Christ? I often thought about people like Biggie Smalls and TuPac, two of the top rappers of all time, what kind of influence could they have had, if they would have used their gifts to the glory of God in its fullness.

I myself have always had a respect for all genres of music, but it’s crazy the influence artists have on our young people. I do not believe music was ever intended to be derogatory, disrespectful, nor violent.

Many artist often use the excuse well I rap about what I have experienced, this life is all I know.  I hear where you coming from, but if every Minister, Pastor, or any church goers focused only on where they have been, what they have done it would be a sad day, but instead we focus on where God is taking us and His sovereign grace and mercy. We witness to people the love of Jesus Christ, not the situation we have faced, but His awesome delivering power.

I do believe Hip Hop and all other genres has its place in the church to proclaim the love and message of Jesus Christ. I hope one day some of the older generation in the church would see it differently, I am eternally grateful for the church I go to, but I know some never will  have respect for Hip Hop, but to the future generation make way, because Hip Hop has its place. I believe the Hip Hop generation can win souls to Christ that others may not be able to reach or relate to, but my greatest pray is that all of our Hip Hop artist would turn their gifts to Christ for the up building of God’s Kingdom, drawing our youth to know it’s not boring to live a God-like life, but a privilege and an honor, to know the undying eternal grace and unconditional love of Jesus Christ.
