We here at the Global Grind offices listen to a lot of music. So much that it’s sometimes hard to keep track and process it all. A lot of times we only get to listen to a song once. Certain songs, though, we can’t help but repeat over and over – they’re just that good. In this new daily feature, we will be breaking down the day in music by the number of times we listened to a track. ‘5‘ is the track that had us go back and rewind more than once, the musical highlight of our day. ‘1′ is for the song we listened to once and then not at all, which may or may not be a bad thing.

Today was a pretty good day, with new tracks from from favorites like Fabolous and Kid Cudi. The one track that got the most burn from today was definitely…

5. Faith Evans – Everyday Struggle (feat. Raekwon)

Faith Evans is one of the most underrated figures in modern music. She’s been in the game for almost two decades, and while her career is nothing to scoff as she tends to get overlooked when compared to her contemporaries like Mary J. Blige. For her latest single ‘Everday Struggle,’ off of her upcoming fifth album Something About Faith, Faye revisits her late husband Notorious B.I.G.’s song of the same title, and calls on Raekwon the Chef to sprinkle a bit of that Wu Magic. Songs like this really make us nostalgic for the 90s.

4. John Legend – I Can’t Write Left Handed

John Legend has a very classic-sound voice voice, so it should come as no surprise to anyone that he sounds totally in his element on this cover of Bill Withers’ ‘I Can’t Write Left Handed’ from his ollaborative album with The Roots’ ?estlove and Melanie Fiona. This live performance is excellent, showcasing the type of musicianship that is lacking in today’s R&B. Hopefully John’s next album sounds more like this and less like his last one (2008’s Evolver).
