Hey it’s @Shontelle!

In life there are amazing thing you want to celebrate and I’ve definitely had a lot of cool accomplishments. One being involved in Barack Obama’s campaign and having my song, Battle Cry, be on his Voices of Grassroots Movement. That just blew my mind because I’m not even American, yet I get to be a part of one of the most historic events ever to take part in this country or the world. It is stuff like that, that excites me, because I’m so ambitious. Every time something happens I’m just excited about doing the next thing.

One of the most exciting things for me was getting to open for Beyonce every night for 2 months straight, no less than 30,000 people every night. They’re all there for Beyonce but I still get to perform in front of them.

That has to be the most major thing that has happened in my career. She spent her time with me, talking to me, being just such a nice person and so inspiring and I never thought any of that was going to happen. It was shocking because so many people try to make it seem like most artists become major and become assholes, but she invited me to hang out in her room, and gave me motivation.

I told her she really changed my feelings about the industry and fears that I had about being in this world where people were mean and that I was never going to feel accepted or embraced.

She was probably the first artist to make to feel embraced, like I was really a part of the club. And now, being able to put out a song that’s Top 10 on the charts, and being seen on billboards now…those things, I never saw coming.
