We just received word that soul and R&B legend Teddy Pendergrass has died.

Pendergrass started his career with The Cadillacs before moving on to The Blue Notes (where he had the massive hit ‘If You Don’t Know Me By Now’). Pendergrass would go on to launch a highly successful solo career and released hit singles like ‘The More I Get the More I Want,’ ‘Close The Door’ (celebrated in the Eddie Murphy hit THE NUTTY PROFESSOR), ‘I Don’t Love You Anymore’ and ‘Turn Off the Lights.’

In 1982 Pendergrass was involved in an automobile accident and paralyzed from the waist down. He announced his retirement from the music industry in 2006. He had been fighting illness in recent month including a lengthy hospitalization at Bryn Mawr Hospital.

Global Grind sends our condolences to his family and his fans!  We will miss Teddy!
