Saturday marks the 70th birthday of John Lennon – the rebellious, ant-war englishman who was one of the greatest songwriters of all time. John Lennon was inducted in the Songwriters Hall of Fame posthumously in 1987.

John Lennon gave the the world the first pop feedback on ‘I Feel Fine and the first backwards-tracked vocal on ‘Rain’. Lennon and producer George Martin were skilled samplers ahead of their time as evident in ‘Tomorrow Never Knows.’

He also indirectly brought us Googles first ever Video Doodle.

Friday is the premiere of Nowhere Boy, a boipic about the early years of John Lennon‘s life as a smart but troubled young boy caught between two people and two worlds. The film details the birth of the global icon through his meeting with Paul McCartney and his yearnings for rock ‘n’ roll.

On the same day Gimme Some Truth, an 11-disc collection featuring remastered versions of his solo work, will be released.If you wait another month or so (November 22nd) you’ll also be treated with the American Masters documentary LennoNYC, which documents Lennon’s life after the Beatles in Gotham.
