The most dangerous (scene to film) is either a bomb going off or a fight with Gabrielle,” he said during a conference call. “They’re about the same.” Anwar, who was also on the call, agreed. “I don’t like fighting with Jeffrey, because I always hurt him. I don’t know what I’m doing, and he’s such an expert.”

Donovan, who has a black belt in karate and eight years of experience in jujitsu and aikido, enjoys doing 90 percent of his stunts, all the same. And his character of Michael Westen, a blacklisted special agent who goes to work as an unlicensed private investigator, provides him plenty of action.

“I’m getting older, though, and as you get older, it’s harder to run and jump over cars and beat up bad guys,” he said. “But (filming the show) becomes easier in some ways because you know the character so well.”

Anwar’s character is Fiona Glenanne, a former Irish Republican Army operative and Westen’s ex-girlfriend. The show also stars Sharon Gless as Westen’s mother, Madeline, and Bruce Campbell as Sam Axe, a semiretired intelligence operative and Westen’s last contact in the spy community.

“Season 4 is actually pretty remarkable. I met with the writers last week, and we broke down the next eight or nine episodes. There is going to be a young operative, and you’ll see Michael going on even more dangerous missions with the new operative.”
