EXCERPT 8: Miracle Of Meditation

And even though there are probably better uses for my resources than owning a professional basketball team, if I ever did own one I can tell you this: In addition to lifting weights and running, I would also make sure my players incorporated meditation into their training regimen.

That’s because a basketball player with a calm mind is still is going to feel in complete control when he rises up to take the final shot at the end of the game. The crowd might be screaming, his teammates and coach might be going crazy, but that ballplayer won’t hear a drop of that noise. As he rises up for the final shot, it will feel like the world is moving in slow motion. He might be thirty feet from the basket with defenders draped all over him, but that shot is going to feel like a layup. It’s going to feel like throwing a stone in the ocean. When you’re operating out of stillness, everything is easier.
