While news of a one-year asylum in Russia might be good news for NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, the U.S. is not happy…and the White House has vocalized their dissent. “We are extremely disappointed that the Russian government would take this step despite our very clear and lawful request” to have him expelled, said White House spokesman Jay Carney. “Mr. Snowden is not a whistleblower—he is accused of leaking classified information.” The Obama administration has threatened to scale back diplomatic relations between the two countries. The president of Hillsdale College in Michigan has apologized after describing minority students as “dark ones” during a state legislature subcommittee hearing. While discussing a letter sent to him by the Department of Education, he told the committee that the college was accused of violating “the standards for diversity because we didn’t have enough dark ones, I guess, is what they meant.” See what he said next, here…[HuffPost]

A 12-year-old boy in Johnstown, Pennsylvania robbed a local lemonade stand with a BB gun, taking a box containing about $30. The preteen approached the stand, which was being run by a group of younger boys, and pointed the gun at a 10-year-old boy, threatening to shoot if they didn’t hand over the money. A scuffle ensued and the victims chased the boy home. Police were alerted and the boy was taken into custody. He is expected to face charges in juvenile court. [Gawker]
