Civil rights groups in North Carolina wasted no time when Gov. Patrick McCrory signed a sweeping voting reform bill into law that imposes photo identification requirements on voters. As soon as the legislation was signed, the group filed lawsuits in federal court to challenge the restrictive law for what they call another attempt to suppress votes. [CBS]

How to keep rape percentages down at a university? Lie about them. That’s exactly what the University of Southern California did to keep the crime numbers low and now, they might have to answer for the dirty deed. Testimony from victims and evidence show that officials mislabeled the crimes, often listing rape or sexual assault as “injury response,” in order to lower rape statistics. Oh. And this is also the college that told a victim she wasn’t raped because the assailant didn’t orgasm. Go figure. [HuffPost]

Now this is positive news. A bill that will require schools to respect students’ gender identity and makes sure they can participate in school activities, teams, programs and facilities was signed into law by California governor, Jerry Brown.
