So this happened. Senior White House advisor Dan Pfeiffer had the most unfortunate typo when he accidentally wrote the n-word instead of “bigger” in a tweet. Pfeiffer was responding to a post from Jonathan Martin early Tuesday morning, when he tweeted: ‘@jmartNYT also a much [n-word] factor on the right.’ He later apologized, calling it a “horrendous” typo, but not before the rest of the world caught on. So much for being vigilant. San Francisco Police say commuters on a light-rail train were so engrossed with Candy Crush and whatever else their phones have to offer that they didn’t even notice a man with his weapon out in plain sight. The man pulled out the gun multiple times and then finally fired a shot at a 20-year-old student. The shooting was said to be random. [HuffPost]

There’s a major salmonella outbreak in 18 states and we can’t do anything about it because of the government shutdown. The shutdown has halted federal efforts to protect Americans’ health and food safety, as many of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention employees are furloughed. But the government has no choice, with the outbreak spreading — they are bringing some of the staff back to work on outbreak detection. Let’s hope that works…[HuffPost]
