The surprise success of Malcolm D. Lee‘s The Best Man Holiday has already sparked some interest in creating another installment.

The holiday sequel raked in a total of $32 million its opening weekend, surpassing the highly anticipated action film Thor. And according to Deadline, the executives at Universal are already in talks with the director to write and direct the third film of the franchise.

Box office sales proved that movie-goers loved the reunion of The Best Man gang, and that romantic comedies with all black actors and a black director could be as successful as any other film.

Although it took 14 years for Lee to release the highly successful sequel, the next film would hit theaters much sooner than that.

We sat down with the director as he discussed the sequel and spoke about whether he plans on making another Best Man movie.

Lee is currently writing and producing a project for Fox Searchlight, but due to the accomplishments of his latest film, another Best Man movie would become a main priority.

If a third Best Man movie gets the green light, it’s likely the cast will request a pay bump, since none of them were locked in for a third movie.

Tell us, would you like to see another installment of The Best Man, or is it way too soon?
