Police in a Detroit suburb have come under fire after a Grosse Point officer admitted to making a mentally ill black man sing and dance, while he recorded and took photos to show his friends. This was just one video among others involving unjust treatment of black men.
The horrible joke was shared within the police station with other officers and colleagues in the upper class neighborhoods. The videos and photos were later sent to the site Motor City Muckracker, which were then forwarded to the police. According to ThinkProgress, the videos are disturbing, but were comical to some of the people of Grosse Point.
One video portrayed a voice alleged to be an officer asking black men to do humiliating tasks, including “dance like a chimp.” In another incident, an officer allegedly texted a photo of a black man in the back of his trailer with the text, “Gotta love the coloreds.”
So far, one police officer has been taken off duty. When will this end?
