Queen Elizabeth is on the brink of being broke. Well, not exactly, but it is being reported that the Queen’s household finances are at a historic low, with just £1 million left in reserve. In fact, her stash has dropped from £35 million in 2001 to the £1 million she has in 2014. And on top of that, a report by the Commons public accounts committee found that the Queen’s advisers were failing to control her finances while the royal palaces were “crumbling.” Yikes. Batman can come out of hiding now. Mexico has legalized vigilante or self-defense groups this week, and in the same breath, captured one of the four top leaders of the Knights Templar drug cartel, which the vigilante groups have been fighting for the last year. Vigilante groups estimate their numbers at 20,000 men under arms. So this happened. A school in Louisiana allegedly told a sixth grade Buddhist student that his religion was “stupid” during a lesson on the impossibility of evolution. The teacher also told the class that the Bible is 100 percent true. And when the child’s parents reported the incidents, the Sabine Parish superintendent told them “this is the Bible Belt” and asked if the child could change his faith or transfer to a school where “there are more Asians.” How infuriating. Even more infuriating? A female student and rape victim at Hanover College in Indiana was told to stop harassing the same man who physically and sexually abused her. “Samantha,” who believes the action is retaliation from the school, was also prohibited from living on campus after she filed a complaint against the assailant (also her ex-boyfriend). The Hanover student misconduct board decided that Samantha’s attempts to have the male student punished for the alleged offenses, “whether through campus security, the campus conduct review process, his fraternity, the court system, or the Department of Education, do appear to be a type of harassment.” Rape culture, much?
