The woman fatally shot by her 2-year-old son in a Walmart in Idaho has been identified as Veronica Rutledge.

According to the Daily Mail, the 29-year-old nuclear scientist was described by family and friends as a great mother who was very responsible.

The victim’s father-in-law, Terry Rutledge said Ms Rutledge “was a beautiful, young, loving mother.”

“She was not the least bit irresponsible,” Mr Rutledge added. “She was taken much too soon.”

Surveillance cameras and employees witnessed the fatal shooting on Tuesday afternoon. Rutledge was in town with her husband Colt visiting their nieces and nephews. She headed to Walmart to purchase items with a gift card she received as a Christmas gift.

Since then, the company has released a statement and reopened its doors to customers.

A woman is dead after a 2-year-old accidentally shot her inside a Hayden, Idaho Walmart on Tuesday afternoon.

The toddler reportedly reached into the woman’s purse and discharged her gun.

A preliminary investigation into the shooting around 11:15 a.m. in Hayden has described it as “accidental” by the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office.

The woman, only identified as 29-years-old, was shopping with several children when surveillance video captured one of them getting a hold of the firearm, KHQ reported.

The woman did have a concealed weapons permit, they said.

The Walmart store is currently closed as police investigate.
