When actor Edward Norton’s Class 5 Films began rolling cameras on his upcoming documentary “By the People: The Election of Barack Obama,” his subject was just about to announce his candidacy for President of the United States. Nearly three years later, with Barack Obama approaching his 80th day in the White House, the film is already set for an HBO premiere this year and is now on the verge of overseas debuts thanks to Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group, which just picked up international media rights (excluding UK television) as well as domestic home entertainment rights to the film. As previously reported, HBO picked up other U.S. rights to the film in November. The cable network has yet to announce a premiere date. The documentary, directed by Amy Rice and Alicia Sams, follows the former senator from the announcement of his candidacy to his historic election and inauguration as the first black president of the United States.
