For the mother of the 16-year-old Steubenville girl who was raped by Trenton Mays and Ma’lik Richmond, forgiveness is the first step towards moving on.

While weeping as the guilty verdict was read, Richmond turned to the victim’s mother and offered a surprising apology.

Approaching the victim’s mother he said: “I’m so very sorry.”

She responded: “I know you are and I forgive you.”

However, the victim, who GlobalGrind will not identify, does not feel those same sentiments for the teenage football players who assaulted her.

The family’s solicitor, Bob Fitzsimmons, spoke to the DailyMail outside of the Jefferson County Juvenile Court about how the victim is trying to get past the situation by forgiving the boys, however, she’s just not ready.

“I think she was prepared to do that. She came here wanting to forgive them but she hasn’t made that decision yet.”

He continued: “They are a very religious, spiritual family. They are praying for those two young men also.”

We hope the victim will be able to heal and move on from this unfortunate situation and we are happy that justice was served.
