Last week Anthony Bourdain threw havoc over Paula Deen’s new endorsement deal for diabetes treatment Victoza. This week, she’s reaching out a backhand and responding with major attitude.

DETAILS: Paula Deen is Gettin’ Rich Off of Diabetes

The Georgia peach chef appeared on ABC’s talk show The Chew to discuss her diabetes diagnosis and her debut as spokesperson for global healthcare company Novo Nordisk.

Paula Deen isn’t about to let haters stop her from having a slice of birthday cake. Seated by hosts Mario Batali and Michael Symon, Deen said:

“Naturally, I am being compensated, my children are being compensated, because we like everybody else, have to work.”

She then joyfully ate a piece of the birthday cake in celebration of her 65th birthday this past Thursday.

Deen revealed that she and sons Bobby Deen and Jamie Deen are “in a position” to “set aside a certain percentage [of the Novo Nordisk finances] but donating that back to the ADA (American Diabetes Association).”

While Paula could care less what people think about her eating habits, Today Show medical editor Dr. Nancy Snyderman thinks her behavior is far too poor in example for such leadership stature.

“Her behavior is egregious. Paula Deen had the chance to do the right thing and she blew it,” Snyderman said Thursday on the NBC morning show. “The idea is to prevent diabetes, not to treat it after the fact.”

Paula believes otherwise:

“You can have diabetes and have a piece of cake. You cannot have diabetes and eat a whole cake.”

In spite of, Deen told The Chew gang that she wants people to take heed of more than a message about diabetes when they think about her life.

“… I hope you associate the word ‘hope’ with it,” she said.

Do you think Paula Dean can have her cake and eat it too?
