The opposition is at it again, as the Republican controlled House of Representatives is set to vote on repealing the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare).
Lawmakers will begin debating the GOP’s proposal to repeal the law Tuesday, with a final vote expected Wednesday afternoon.
This new repeal tactic comes less than two weeks after the Supreme Court ruled in favor of President Barack Obama’s health care reform law.
Republican Rep. Allen West of Florida explained:
“The American people don’t want this Patient Protection Affordable Care Act (ACA). It’s heinous, it’s onerous.
They want it gone so we as their representatives are going to continue to do what they sent us up here to do which is every way that we possibly can make sure that this bad policy, this bad law is irradiated from our rolls.”
The American people don’t want to be protected when it comes to their health care, so what is it about Republicans and health? They are pro-gun, pro-death penalty, pro-war, anti-health care and they say they’re pro-life when it comes to matters of abortion.
It’s a good thing these Republicans aren’t the voices that represent developing countries, because not only would women have no rights when it comes to their health and well being, but many of them would be dead.
What would they say if providing more contraception around the world could save 100,000 lives every year, by stopping many women from dying in childbirth? Would they turn a blind eye and lobby against it?
In a sense, that’s what they’re doing now with their assault on Planned Parenthood and Obamacare.
The ACA will allow women to have access to all Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved contraceptive methods, sterilization procedures, and patient education and counseling.
Wake up Republicans, this is a good thing.
Similarly, preventive services for women in developing countries saves lives on a daily basis, but the funding isn’t there.
In Nigeria, one out of every 10 couples use contraception. But in the rural town of Jigawa, only 1 percent use preventive services as the conservative and mainly Muslim society has prohibited the practice.
As the powers that be slowly loosen their grip, preventive services have become available, although it remains difficult for many women to attain help.
In an interview with the BBC, Zaliha Alhassan, a 35 year-old native of Jigawa, who has had eight children and two miscarriages, said:
“I am glad to have been given a contraceptive jab. It lasts three months.”
She continued:
“I want to stop giving birth because of the difficulties I encounter each time. It’s not easy, it’s been very sorrowful for me.”
How do you think Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum would respond to Alhassan’s plea?
We must remember that the Affordable Care Act, Obamacare, or whatever you want to call it, will HELP PEOPLE who need it. And to try to prevent or stop that, is just un-American.
