I’m just going to say it and risk crucifixion from everyone on the internet that for some reason HATES Michelle Williams.
One, the bullying must stop. And two…there would be no Destiny’s Child without Michelle.
Yep. That just happened. I just said that.

The internet has been buzzing about Michelle Williams in last night’s Destiny’s Child Super Bowl comeback. And while most of the excitement about a DC reunion is still a topic on Twitter and in the news, it’s the shade thrown at the third member that is really garnering attention.
It’s no secret that Beyonce electrifies the stage every time she steps on. Or that Kelly’s body is super bangin’ (thanks to her workouts with celebrity fitness guru Jeanette Jenkins). But what is Michelle’s calling card? What do we remember about her in the group?
Apparently, not much. Take it from Keyshia Cole, who took to Twitter last night to talk about Michelle messing up the groove of the performance.
If that wasn’t enough, there were the memes and tweets about Michelle not being able to keep up with Beyonce and Kelly during the “Single Ladies” set and her apparent awkwardness…her dance moves weren’t selling as much sex as the other two, which drew a little criticism.
And then there are the downright rude and inaccurate statements from people that disrespect Michelle’s contributions to the group and her craft.
But really…would a Destiny’s Child reunion without Michelle actually please the masses? If Kelly and Beyonce were the only ones on stage, would true DC fans be happy? And imagine a harmonization without Michelle’s mezzo-soprano vocal range…believe it or not…it makes a difference.
Imagine “Through With Love” without Michelle’s emotional bridge. Or her gospel lungs belting out this run in “Survivor.”
You’d be lying if you say you wouldn’t miss it. She had the best part and you KNOW IT!
And before you criticize Michelle for her “shortcomings,” consider this. Michelle just joined the national tour of the hit award-winning Broadway musical Fela! And that’s big news. Her arena may not be sex and pop music…but she’s breaking barriers in gospel music. And she’s overcome a dark, depressive past. Just last month, the DC star revealed that she has suffered from years of moderate depression, but thanks to exercise, therapy and positive thinking, she’s getting through it.
Positive thinking. Some of us need a little of that when it comes to Destiny’s Child – if we’re real fans. But even if you aren’t…some of us need to be more cognizant of the hurtful things we say about people who are brave enough to share their talent and lives with the rest of us.
And if you’re still skeptical about Michelle’s contributions to Destiny’s Child, or her killer voice, or the fact that she’s extremely talented…
Just watch the Super Bowl performance again. And see who is standing right next to Bey during that historical show. Oh…is that Michelle Williams?
Haters…have a seat.
