Ever since the Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week shows back in February, we’ve spent the whole year getting our closets fall-ready. While we’ve enjoyed these past warm-weather months, we’re more than ready to embark on a whole new season of style and try out the trends we saw on those runways seven months ago.

Right on the cusp of autumn, we’re taking a look back at Fashion Week and presenting you with what you can expect to see and wear.

White-Hot Winter:

Never mind the freezing temps, this winter is going to be white hot. All black everything will still be in, but fashion will venture to the other side of the color spectrum for head-to-toe looks that are absent of color. Tommy Hilfiger, Derek Lam and Proenza Schouler presented us with style inspo to set the season ablaze with winter white structured tops and bottoms.

Cut-Out Couture:

You could cover up this fall, or you can brave the cold and show some skin in cut-out pieces. Alexander Wang showed us how to do slits in a subdued style. And Cushnie et Ochs kept it sexy, classy and chic with sharp angles and slits. We know what you’re thinking: that emerald green gown is a little too risqué. But when Selena Gomez  wore it at the Teen Choice Awards, it was nothing but superb.

Thigh-High Boots:

These weren’t just made for walking; strutting is more like it. 3.1 Phillip Lim, Tibi and BCBGMAXAZRIA took boots to great lengths, but not in heel height, though. Wear your ankle booties during the fall, but when you’re seeking more warmth come winter, a pair of thigh-high boots will have you covered and cozy. And your legs will look elongated. What a win-win.

Beanie Babies:

Bad hair days aren’t limited to any one season, so we can all rejoice in knowing beanies are still deemed A-OK this fall. Katie Ermilio, Donna Karan and Karen Walker understand that sometimes, our hair just chooses not to cooperate, and they’ve offered a solution with a mane-taming, outfit-topping accessory.

Mad for Plaid:

Plaid is just the pattern that keeps on giving. It’s been a trend for years now, and designers like Tommy Hilfiger and Stella McCartney let us know that it’s not going anywhere earlier this year. If you’re afraid of channeling your schoolgirl days, pair it with edgy leather a-la 3.1 Phillip Lim.

Overstatement Coats:

No need for statement jewelry this fall; let your overcoat do all the talking. Ditch your typical never-fail black jacket for one that’ll make you stand out this season. We saw plenty of variety: militaristic modern from Jason Wu, fluffy and furry faux fuzz from BCBGMAXAZRIA, and bold and flowy from Yigal Azrouel. All you have to do is take your pick.
