A lot of people may have had a great 2013.
Some we’ve known for years and hadn’t seen nearly enough. Others we’ve been seeing for a while, but their craft finally started to pay off. Then there were the newcomers; the stars we never heard of before but developed a thirst to know more, see more and learn more about in 2014.
Stars like Lupita N’yongo, who plays Patsy in 12 Years a Slave, quickly took the world by storm with her elegance, beauty and style.
This year saw the reintroduction of our boy Morris Chestnut, who did 6 movies from 2006-2012, and then burst into 2013 with 6 movies this year. That’s impressive.
We also found out that the new black is orange and were introduced to Taylor Schilling and the entire cast of Orange Is The New Black.
As this year comes to an end, we would like to highlight the 13 people who made the most of it, helping to keep us highly entertained during the last 365 days. Here are the breakout stars of 2013… Mazel tov!
1. Kerry Washington
We can't mention "Scandal" without talking about our girl Kerry. Just check out the 7 ways she won 2013.
Oh Kill Em! He is by far 2013's biggest viral winner. Now if we can get him some basketball lessons...
3. Naya Rivera
She's been around, but no one had a better year than Naya, her show "Glee" is a hit, she has a superstar boyfriend named Big Sean and she's engaged. We'll just chalk 2013 up as a win for her.
4. Ariana Grande: The next queen of pop in the making, Ariana Grande had a monster year. A new show, a hit album and an amazing voice - we are in!
5. Dakota Johnson
She's been picked to turn America's favorite book into a movie and now the whole world wants to know more about this 50 Shades of Grey star.
6. Nicole Beharie
She is one of the reasons the networks are screaming for shows with more diversity. This "Sleepy Hollow" star already has a Season 2 on her plate and is destined for bigger things to come.
7. Scott Eastwood
The son of Clint Eastwood is making a name for himself in the world of modeling and acting.
8. Morris Chestnut
He did 6 movies from 2006-2012 and then burst into 2013 with 6 movies this year. That's impressive.
9. Michael B. Jordan
Last year, our boy Michael B. Jordan showed us he was serious about his acting in "Chronicle." But in 2013, he showed and proved he can be one of the best with his role as Oscar Grant in the movie "Fruitvale Station." His future is bright with a chance of Academy Awards.
10. Taylor Schilling
She is the star of Netflix hit show "Orange Is The New Black" and she quickly became the talk of the internet and around the water cooler by playing Piper. Her performance was good enough to get her a Golden Globe nomination and a spot on our breakout stars list.
11. Bellamy Young
She plays Mellie Fitzgerald on the hit ABC show "Scandal," but her great acting has started a #TeamMellie and created enough buzz to move her from an occasional cast member to a full time cast member in 2013. In 2014, we want to see even more of Bellamy Young.
12. Lupita Nyong'o
Beauty and talent, Lupita is the front runner for every Best Supporting Actress award for her role as Patsy in "12 Years A Slave." She has everyone hoping to see a lot more of her in 2014.
13. Black Twitter
Black Twitter won 2013 - hands down. It's the year people recognized the power of black twitter. They even checked our boss!
