On the second anniversary of his son’s tragic death, Tracy Martin, father of Trayvon, spoke out about George Zimmerman’s acquittal, coping with his loss, and the state of gun laws in America.

Trayvon was shot and killed during a confrontation with former neighborhood watchman Zimmerman in February 2012. Zimmerman was found not guilty of the second-degree murder count in July of the following year.

In an interview with Al Sharpton on “Politics Nation,” Martin discussed his effort, along with Trayvon’s mother Sybrina Fulton, to appeal to Congress for gun control reform. Martin has joined other families affected by gun violence, including the parents of Jordan Davis, to repeal the controversial Stand Your Ground laws that both of their sons’ killers cited for self-defense.

“It’s sad to say that, I feel as though this country actually values guns more than they do our children’s lives,” he said.
