Never mind the fact that President Obama’s appearance on Zach Galifianakis’ “Between Two Ferns” to discuss Obamacare actually worked (the affordable health care marketplace reached the 4.2 million mark on Wednesday).
Fox News host Bill O’Reilly will still have something to say about the way the President uses new media, and smartly so, to promote initiatives for the benefit of all Americans.
On Tuesday, fresh from his rant over Beyonce’s steamy “Partition” video (just wait for it, we’ll get there), O’Reilly, super pissed about Obama and Galifianakis’ hilarious exchange at a time when America is being “tested” by enemies, had this to say about the appearance:
“For a president under intense scrutiny to do a comedy show raises some questions. I don’t have a problem with it in general … [but it’s] a little bit desperate, don’t you think? There comes a point when serious times call for serious action.”
Oh, did we forget to tell you about the part where he backed up his argument by pointing out that Abraham Lincoln would never appear on such a show? Well maybe because the internet didn’t reign supreme in Lincoln’s time, amirite?
You can watch his heated argument above if you’re into that sort of thing, but back to Beyonce, shall we?
Earlier this week, the conservative host chose to take his anger out on the mega-star for her ultra-feminist song and video for “Partition” (where, we must mention, she is living out O’Reilly’s conservative traditions of a marriage by dancing for her husband of 10 years). In an interview with GlobalGrind’s bossman Russell Simmons, O’Reilly had this to say:
“Explain this: Beyoncé…She puts out a new album with a video that glorifies having sex in the back of a limousine. Teenage girls look up to Beyoncé, particularly girls of color…Why on Earth would this woman do that? Why would she do it when she knows the devastation that unwanted pregnancies…and fractured families — why would Beyoncé do that?”
So let’s recap. Beyonce causes teenage pregnancies. Moving on…
When Simmons brought the focus back to his new book, Success Through Stillness, O’Reilly attacked again, demanding Beyonce answer for her actions through Simmons somehow.
Because apparently they are one in the same.
“You’re dodging the question. I believe an entertainer like Beyoncé and a mogul like you have an obligation to protect children. Not put out exploitive garbage that you know harms impressionable children. I think Beyoncé — what she has done here — is inexplicable and I’m asking you, Russell Simmons, to explain it to me.”
Which, by the way isn’t only confusing (only Beyonce has Beyonce’s answers) but problematic; O’Reilly, ever the fighting patriarch, is expecting a man to explain and validate Beyonce’s feminism and her decision to take agency over her own sexuality.
You know, like how conservatives do when they close abortion clinics, tell impressionable teenagers that birth control is like Viagra and decide to stronghold women’s reproductive rights because they know better than us.
That shit just doesn’t work.
