Police are looking into a Tennessee man’s sick obsession with cannibalism after he was found trying to dump the severed body of victim Lisa Marie Hyder outside his parents’ home in rural Coffee County.
According to the Huffington Post, Gregory Scott Hale admitted to killing the 36-year-old woman and eating pieces of her body. Police discovered his crime after Hale made it known to others that he was seeking help to dispose of the body.
The sheriff said officers went to Hale’s home Sunday after getting information that he was seeking help in disposing of the victim’s body. The victim has been identified as 36-year-old Lisa Marie Hyder. Her body has been sent to Nashville for an autopsy. Watkins said the two did not know each other until meeting in Manchester the day investigators believe she was killed.
Police found Hyde’s body under the suspect’s fire-pit, with her hands, head, and feet chopped off. Police also found buckets of her remains in the home he shared with his parents. The man’s infatuation with cannibalism can be discerned through his numerous social media posts circling around serial killer Richard Ramirez.
In disturbing social media posts, Hale had joked about cannibalism and praised serial killer Richard Ramirez, the Night Stalker.
“If someone were to become a cannibal and eat a vegetarian, would the vegetarian taste like that fake soy meat?” Hale wrote on Facebook, according to WSMV.
In a tribute to Ramirez back in February, Hale wrote that he wished he could have met the infamous serial killer and rapist, who died in 2013.
Hale was also known to collect eyeballs, blood, and bones from his old job at a meat processing plant.
The suspect is being charged with first-degree murder and abuse of a corpse. His bail is currently sitting at $1.5 million dollars, with a court case set for June 16.
