Talk about shade.
As the male pop singer made his way to the stage to accept his moon man for Best Male Video at the MTV VMAs last night, nearly everyone in his row reached out their hands to congratulate him on his big win – everyone except Miley. Not only did she not offer up a celebratory handshake or high-five, but the 21-year-old appears to shout “asshole” in Ed’s face as he walks by.
Unfortunately, the cringe-worthy moment didn’t go unnoticed. Fans of both talented artists took to Twitter to duke it out over the awkward exchange.
This isn’t the first time these two have had problems. In 2013, the “Don’t” singer threw major shade at Miley over her dance move of choice.
“It’s a stripper’s movie. If I had a daughter of mine, I wouldn’t want her twerking. When I first heard ‘Wrecking Ball,’ I thought it was a brilliant song. But the video distracts too much from it.”
Speaking of Miley’s twerking, the “Bangerz” star is reportedly through with that craze.
During an interview with Sway on the VMA red carpet, Miley revealed her plans to “retire” from the twerking game.
“I’ve retired from twerking, yeah. I’m making some music right now with The Flaming Lips. It’s different. It’s a little psychedelic,” she said.
That’s right, Miley’s reinventing herself once more. But fear not - she’s still as dedicated to her music as ever.
“I live to be in the studio, that’s my favorite part, is bunkering down, working on a record,” she said. “This record might take me five years. I don’t know. I’m just going to work on it until I’m done.”
Perhaps part of that reinvention includes being more of a humanitarian.
That would explain the mystery man accompanying her to last night’s award show. The “Wrecking Ball” singer allowed her date, a homeless teen named Jesse, to accept her award for Video of the Year. Jesse delivered a heartfelt and emotional speech about the struggles he and millions of other homeless youths face on a daily basis.
In closing, he directed viewers to Miley’s Facebook page, where they can learn more about the charity My Friend’s Place and make donations.
