It only took a year, but twerkin’ is finally dead.
It was made official by Miley Cyrus yesterday (who Christopher Columbus’d the dance during the VMAs last year).
The singer made the announcement while appearing on the Australian morning show Sunrise. The host asked Miley what the new hot dance was. She declared twerkin’ dead, and then threw out another dance that has been picking up steam this year: the Nae Nae.
Here’s what she said:
“My dancers, the LA Bakers, they taught it to me, they just started doing it and I was like ‘what is that?’ So then I started doing it which is kind of what happened with the twerkin’ too. I keep trying to start it at all my shows and no one is really doing it back at me.”
If you’re a little out of the scene, the Nae Nae comes from Atlanta rap group We Are Toonz and their hit record “Drop That #NaeNae.”
So R.I.P. twerkin’ (8/25/13-10/17/14), and let us all welcome the Nae Nae.
We can’t wait until Miley finds out about the Shmoney Dance.
