In today’s “Stories From Florida,” we meet a man who stabbed his nephew over a pork chop and officials who are ready to separate North and South Florida.

Yep, South Florida wants to be the 51st state in America.

 Karate (Pork) Chop

Billy Ray Wall, 62 was arrested on Monday night after stabbing his nephew over a plate of pork chops. The 62-year-old was charged with aggravated battery after police were called to the home in Fellsmere. The victim met police outside bleeding profusely from two stab wounds to his stomach.

A witness had intervened by physically separating the two men, but the argument turned physical again, said investigators.  While the two combatants were in the victim’s bedroom, Wall stabbed his nephew twice in the abdomen with a knife. Wall claimed the act was in self-defense because the victim threatened him with a machete.

Never Loved Us

South Florida is ready to be their own state after constant conflicts with Tallahassee over problems with sea levels and other environmental disagreements.

You mean it’s not because of people like this?

During a meeting with Vice Mayor Walter Harris and other South Miami officials earlier this month, the proposal was approved 3-2.

“We have to be able to deal directly with this environmental concern and we can’t really get it done in Tallahassee,” Harris said. “I don’t care what people think — it’s not a matter of electing the right people.”

Mayor Philip Stoddard agreed with Harris’ reasoning, saying during the meeting that he’s advocated for secession for the past 15 years but never penned a resolution. “It’s very apparent that the attitude of the northern part of the state is that they would just love to saw the state in half and just let us float off into the Caribbean,” Stoddard said. “They’ve made that abundantly clear every possible opportunity and I would love to give them the opportunity to do that.”

For the act to go all the way through, the proposal would have to be approved by Congress. Read more about the resolution here…..[Orlando Sentinel
