I want to take this time to thank Wendy Williams and the folks at Lifetime for making the “Aaliyah: Princess of R&B” movie. It was horrible, the acting was barely (Donna Goudeau voice) average, the script was blah, and the casting was just awful.

But all of this is a good thing..apparently. Good enough that Wendy Williams boasted about the atrocious movie on her hit show, “The Wendy Williams Show” by saying:

“I see my Aaliyah movie broke the Internet this weekend! Errbody got an opinion. Well, I must tell you, whether you loved or hated, you watched. It was the second-highest rated movie on all of cable this year so far.”

Hey, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. I’m really glad that she was able to put a positive spin on this critically-bashed movie.

Here’s the thing, we like to bash watch TV as much as we enjoy binge watching television. Bash watching is when we watch a show just to join in on the discussion of how bad and awful it is, just to be entertained. People do it for “Girls”, “Love & Hip Hop,” award shows, and those strange ghetto World Star videos.

So that’s why the Aaliyah movie might have been the most enjoyable TV time I’ve had in a long-ass time. Reading people’s reactions to the Tiara Thomas doppelganger who got to play Missy was great.

Seeing the memes and hashtags that came from the movie, even before it was over was epic.

Zendaya’s reaction to finding out people didn’t like the film, was phenomenal.

Remembering what Lifetime did to the Michael Jackson story made me laugh so hard, I started to believe that Wendy and Lifetime were just trolling black Twitter.

Still I was entertained. The movie was so bad, when I watched the early version of it, I thought to myself that I can’t wait to see Twitter’s reaction to this “work of art.”

Because that what this was, an abstract motion picture of someone else’s opinion on Aaliyah’s life that spawned the #LifeTimeBeLife hashtag and for that I am grateful, even if that Spanish guy from Coach Carter’s cousin played Dame Dash.

Truthfully Wendy.

Xilla – Thanks from the bottom of my heart.
