A mother from Chicago left not a dry eye in the house at the Thornton Fractional North High School graduation ceremony yesterday, as she donned her late son’s cap and gown to receive his diploma for him.

According to NY Daily News, 18-year-old Aaron Dunigan was killed in a car crash collision just a few days prior, while him and a friend were heading home after prom night.

Mother Katherine Jackson told reporters at the grad ceremony:

“I’m going to be his legs and he’s going to be my wings, and we’re going to go up there and get our diploma.”

Dunigan was the Thornton Fractional North High School senior quarterback for their football team when his life was cut short after the fatal car accident. Reports say that his friend driving was allegedly high on marijuana.

Jackson continued to tell reporters:

“My son has left a piece of him inside all of them,” she said. “Every time I hug one of them, I get a little piece of my baby back.”

We send our condolences to Katherine Jackson and Aaron’s loved ones.
