I really don’t understand why black people are so afraid to embrace our love for fried chicken and chicken in general. It’s delicious.

OK, let me back up for a minute. Yesterday, Mary J Blige’s Burger King commercial hit the internet and caused a storm.

No she didn’t sing, “I’m not gonna fry, I’m not gonna shed a tear!” She also didn’t break out in a remix of “Real Love” where she sang, “I’m searching for some real grub!” According to the world it was the worst move ever, but I beg to differ.

One website called it an ill-conceived ad, but I loved it. It was freaking funny. Just like the BK commercials with David Beckham and Salma Hayek were equally as hilarious.

Hell, all three of these new ads were better than those creepy Burger King ads with the King who magically appears holding a Whopper. If you ask me, I would much rather have Mary J Blige singing on a table, than a scary man in a mask staring at me while holding a Whopper in his hand.

There is a rumor that Mary J Blige got about $2 million to sing about BK’s Chicken Snack Wrap! I don’t know about y’all, but I’m not mad at her, and singing about chicken to the beat of just one drum.

All jokes aside, we have to get past the point where black people cannot sing about chicken. Deshiar, one of my Twitter followers, said it best, when he told me:

“People are afraid of themselves, of their stereotypes. Mary J. Blige endorsing chicken isn’t the destruction of the Black Race.”

I couldn’t agree more! Believe it or not, black people are not genetically programmed to love chicken, but rather, we love it because it’s delicious. Also you know what, people go off all racist like chicken and sometimes… We sing about it.

If you ask me, MJB’s ode to crispy chicken, fresh lettuce, three cheeses, ranch dressing, wrapped up tasty flour tortilla, is much better than McDonald’s chicken nugget R&B song. I’m just saying! Somethings are funny, meant to be funny and shouldn’t get our panties in a bunch.
