Darcus Howe, a West Indian writer and broadcaster, has become a hero during the London riots after voicing his opinion during a BBC interview.

In Darcus’s opinion, the police’s mistreatment of youths led to the uproar.
He also addresses the combination of the ignorance of both police and the government when it comes to dealing with the young people of London.
The writer describes how his grandson is stopped and searched by police countless times and that it is not a riot, but in fact an “insurrection of the masses of the people.”
