Embattled Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi is either in southern Tripoli or has already fled to the desert, his defected former prime minister Abdessalam Jalloud said on Thursday.
“He has only four people left around him. There are two possibilities: either he is hiding in the southern part of Tripoli or he left some time ago,” Jalloud, who fled Tripoli and has been in Italy since Saturday, told a press conference in Rome.

A message supposedly from Muammar Gaddhafi was aired in Libya and the speaker urged people not to leave Tripoli “for the rats.” Encouraging listeners to “Go out into the streets and fight.”

Rebels say they found Gaddafi held up in the building with some of his sons.
Gaddafi vowed throughout the Libyan uprising that he will fight to the end and now it seems he will have to.
One rebel told reporters that, “They are together, they are in a small hole, today we finish, today we will end that.”
