Anders Behring Breivik, the Norwegian right-wing extremist who confessed to the July 22nd bombing in Oslo, followed by a shooting spree at a nearby youth summer camp that killed 77 people, says he deserves a medal of honor for his summer massacre.

Appearing in a Norwegian Court room today, Breivik smirked as nearly 100 of the victims’ families looked on as he was scheduled for a detention hearing.

During the hearing, Breivik raised both his hands in what his attorney has said to be a “some kind of right-wing extremist greeting.”

He then told the judge he should be released from custody and said he deserved the military medal for his work against his country’s “traitors” in the fight against the “Islamic colonization of Norway.”

Breivik claimed that the terror attacks were “preventative” moves and said he acted in cultural self-defense.

According to the Associated Press, Breivik reportedly said that the “Ethnic Norwegians will become the minority in 10 years in Oslo.”

Despite his confessions, Breivik believes he is not guilty of any crime. Breivik is scheduled to go on trial for terrorism charges in April.

Norway doesn’t have a death penalty, which means that Breivik, if found guilty, would spend the rest of his life behind bars.
