Hey GG world..it’s your girl La La!  This is my first blog but I can promise that you are in for a fun ride with me because there is so much we can talk about together!

I’m proud to say as a Puerto Rican woman born and raised in New York City that my first blog is about something very near to my heart. As many of you have heard on the news, Sonia Sotomayor, a Puerto Rican woman from the Bronx, was appointed to the Supreme Court and history was made!!  Not only was this a historical turning point for all women but more importantly for Latina women.

I’m not a political expert but what I do want to share is what this historic news meant for me as a Latina woman.   To be honest, I felt and still feel an overwhelming sense of pride and appreciation to count her as one of my culture’s most important role models.   The fact that she was able to rise out of poverty to overcome obstacles and climb the ranks in a male dominated environment is absolutely amazing.   It proves that success comes with hard work and determination.

I also hope this historic moment will inspire other young women to pursue their goals and dreams and to raise the standard of what it means to be Latina in this country.

We have the control to change the stereotypes and the power to change the world.

It’s also exciting to know that this historic moment will be forever in the history books where my son will learn about it and his sons or daughters will learn about it.

I’m so proud to be a woman.  I’m extra proud to be a Puerto Rican woman.

Congratulations Justice Sotomayor!!!

Remember…whether you agree or disagree with my thoughts, I would still love to hear from you!  Let’s talk!

Stay tuned for my next blog.  In the meantime, follow me on twitter @lalavazquez
