Alicia Keys was welcomed back to the stage on Tuesday (May 3) at Toronto’s Sony Theatre, after a brief hiatus due to the birth of her first child with super-producer Swizz Beatz. The pianist/singer joined Angelique Kidjo, K’Naan, Rufus Wainwright and Holly Cole at the Hope Rising! concert, benefitting the Stephen Lewis Foundation, a non-profit that distributes money to “community-based organizations working on the frontlines of the AIDS pandemic in Africa.”

Providing support for families and children affected by HIV/AIDS is a cause close to Keys’ heart. The songbird is the co-founder and Global Ambassador for Keep a Child Alive, an organization launched to supply medicine to people with HIV/AIDS.

“If you can hear it, you can feel it, you can see it, then hope is rising everywhere we look,” Keys said before kicking off her set. Keys performed her hits, including the New York anthem “Empire State of Mind (Part II) Broken Down” and “Fallin’.”
