The show everyone was talking about this weekend was the Jason Wu presentation, which saw current graffiti legend KAWS in the mix for Spring 2012.

Wu clad models in garments featuring KAWS’s signature hand in leaf prints. This is a big deal for two reasons: It’s the first iconic look we’ve seen for Spring 2012 and it gives women access to an artist primarily identified with male collectors and male iconography.

That weird gender thing that’s happening in hip-hop is at it again!

Wu’s collection will sell because his and KAWS fans will buy double: One to wear and one to collect, just like sneakerheads. What’s also probable is that we may see Mrs. Obama in one of these looks! How cool will that be?

Wu pushed technology in his collection, too. He made looks from nearly weightless NYLON that “moved like chiffon.”

Wu described the collection thus: “Old school technique that looks electrocuted.”
